Pickering is the easiest area for us to serve well after Scarborough itself. It is a short run east from the yard, so properties here are cleared on the same morning pass rather than waiting for a truck to work its way out from the city.
Two different Pickerings
Bay Ridges, West Shore and the older streets south of the 401 sit close to the water on established lots with mature trees and, in places, ageing drainage. North of the highway — Duffin Heights, Brock Ridge and the newer subdivisions — the lots are uniform, the soil is compacted builder fill, and the lawns are young enough that they still need establishment care rather than maintenance care.
It is an ice problem more than a snow problem
Proximity to the lake means Pickering gets a high share of freezing rain and wet snow that refreezes overnight, rather than the dry accumulation further north. Anti-icing before the event does far more here than clearing after it, so brine pre-treatment ahead of a forecast freezing-rain event is included in seasonal contracts rather than billed per visit.
